Great new logo design for the Virtual Doctors

Virtual Doctors logoAt jag, we love it when the opportunity arises to exercise our creative muscles. When our pro bono client, Brighton-based the Virtual Doctors, asked for advice on their existing logo and improving some promotional material, we jumped at the chance to help rethink their image.

Tackling this redesign in time for Huw Jones, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the charity, attending the Global African Investment Summit was an additional challenge. Ideally we like to have enough time to discuss and trial different ideas, but we concentrated our efforts to meet a tight deadline.

As the Virtual Doctors currently operates in Zambia but is hoping to expand through the continent, we came up with the idea of using a map of Africa, to provide an immediate visual cue as to where the charity is focusing its efforts. The solid red colour lent itself perfectly to the hospital/medical theme, as did the white cross, highlighting the nature of the help it provides.

As the Virtual Doctors is a telemedicine charity utilising mobile broadband networks to save lives in isolated areas, we wanted to include an image that would highlight the technology aspect of the work. Incorporating a computer mouse with the wire wrapping itself around the continent, in a kind of supportive embrace, we felt conveyed this idea quite simply but effectively.

the Virtual DoctorsWith the new logo in place, we then turned to the donation leaflet which we converted from a bi to a tri-fold brochure, allowing for a tear-off section to help supporters donate. Despite the lack of professional shots available, we changed some of the existing photographs to provide a range of images, both people and location-focused, updated the copy and incorporated the Africa outline as a backdrop to focus again on the area of operation.the Virtual Doctors page 2

The new logo and leaflets were swiftly followed by new business cards for Huw Jones and, looking ahead, jag will be producing additional business cards for the Trustees and designing a pop-up banner to promote the Virtual Doctors at exhibitions and conferences.
