Department of Health National Personality Disorder Programme

Department of Health National Personality Disorder ProgrammeTimescale: May – December 09

Brief:
In the project for the Department of Health Mental Health division we developed a communication strategy to raise awareness and embed the national Personality Disorder (PD) programme. We also drew up a stakeholder engagement plan. Alongside this Ann Grain co-coordinated a series of 10 regional workshops and the first Personality Disorder Congress in November 2009.

Objectives:

  1. Co-ordinate communication activity to build a profile for PD
  2. Improve communication with stakeholders – particularly service users and carers
  3. Ensure 2009 is a memorable year for PD and a springboard for activity in 2010

PR strategy:
Work on communication activities ranging from the development of a strategy for a whole multi-faceted programme through to the day-to-day delivery of tactical messaging to inform a diverse set of stakeholders. Manage a series of events, coordinating the delivery of 10 regional conferences for around 80 delegates each, culminating in the delivery of a two-day National Congress for 250 delegates. Manage the development and delivery of two ’short’ films, working alongside ITN for one of these, to provide real insight into some extremely complex information.

Measurement and evaluation:
The Department has a focussed and targeted communication strategy which underpins the National PD Programme’s business plan for 2010.

The national roadshows and the Congress attracted the maximum audiences possible and were hailed a great success.
