Cool spring offers bonus week for bluebell walkers

One reward for the recent unseasonably cold, wet weather is the later appearance of bluebells in Arlington Bluebell Walk near Hailsham, East Sussex.

Every cloud has a silver lining! For us this means, because of the cold and rain, the ancient wood will now stay open for one week longer than normal – until 20 May this year.

English bluebells at Arlington Bluebell Walk, East Sussex

We are naturally patriotic here at Bluebell Walk – so if you know your onions (well, your bluebells) you will see that we only boast original English native bluebells in our ancient ¹wood. No Spanish varieties in sight!

Bluebell Walk is also unique in that every year we support registered charities throughout the bluebell season – this year 18 charities have taken it in turn to provide walkers with food and drink.

Over the past 40 years since we opened to the public, we calculate that we have raised over £215,000 for 60 local charities – over £500,000 at today’s values!

As well as the unrivalled 23-acre bluebell wood, there are also eight different walks available over three working farms.  So why not come and get close to farm animals, watch cows being milked, enjoy glimpses of wild animals and flowers amidst beautiful views of the South Downs.

The walks are suitable for all, including those with walking difficulties, who can be helped with free disability scooters.  Dogs are also most welcome, on leads!

There are lots of other things you can do when you visit the Bluebell Walk besides walk among the English bluebells.  Why not:

  • Join the Friends of Arlington Bluebell Walk
  • Take a photo and enter our Photographic Competition
  • ‘Paint Me a Bluebell’
  • Enter our Children’s Quiz.

We are open everyday until Sunday May 20 from 10am till 5pm.

A visit to Bluebell Walk near Arlington is one of the greatest pleasures springtime can offer lovers of the Sussex countryside.

“It is wonderful to hear that we have another week to visit this amazing wood, knowing that the bluebells will still look fabulous as the cold weather has kept them at their best.  I am so excited to be able to come again.” – Friend of the Arlington Bluebell Walk.
